Re: Hacking the Xaar 128 printhead

If you put water in it and powered it on, you ruined the head. I know because I made the same mistake. This head will NEVER run again. But you could have used isopropyle alcohol without destroying it. With IPA, you can clearly see the jetting and refine the software without the fear of clogging if l...

Re: Hacking the Xaar 128 printhead

I don't remember respecting this delay. However, please use lower high voltage, I run with 24...28V since february last year. I believe the voltage must be adjusted accordig to the ink viscosity.

Re: Hacking the Xaar 128 printhead

I made a capping system with a silicone gaslet for the head and a peristaltic pump to suck the ink when cleaning. This way, whem the pump is stopped, the capping is sealed so ink can't drain. On the ink supply side I used a DX4 Epson damper which can provide the required vacuum. On top of this (300m...

Re: Hacking the Xaar 128 printhead

Notsure, do you have experience with this printhead? I'm interested what inks did you supply to it.

Re: Hacking the Xaar 128 printhead

Has anyone tried UV ink? I see that board has UV Leds but I never found a UV ink suitable for Xaar128.

Re: Hacking the Xaar 128 printhead

I have a booster from 24V to 25...35V 3A max. But the head draws a very small current. Max 5W I suppose.

Re: Hacking the Xaar 128 printhead

I may advise to use a supply with adjustable output. My setup works best at 26...28V. If I raise the voltage I have too much satellite drops. Best voltage depends of ink viscosity. Yes, single supply with common ground. In fact all supplies (5V, 24V and 26...35V) have common ground. For high head vo...

Re: Hacking the Xaar 128 printhead

I use a cheap 3A booster from ebay. It seems it's stable enough. It's not quite rocket science. For me the hardest part was to build the mechanical capping. It works good now, I use the same printhead since february and it have all nozzles firing ok.

Re: Hacking the Xaar 128 printhead

Hi, It's normal to uave a short between GND's. I have a full working set I build and I have a single 24V supply. 24 goes to motor drivers, to a 7805 stabilizer and to a booster for head voltage. Don't use 36V, I use only 29...30V instead of 35. In fact, adjust the voltage according to the ink viscos...
