Re: Hacking the HP45

So far what I have come up with is that the high voltage driver circuitry is located on the carriage itself, which receives multiplexed logic input from the printer. Both the 45 and the 23 appear to have identical pin outs, though I believe I read up on how they multiplex tricolor signals slightly d...

Re: Hacking the HP45

Fyi I just got my hands on an old HP deskjet 710 C. It contains an HP45 black and an HP23 Tricolor Head. I'll probably scavenge the carriage and wiring for now until I get a custom one going. I have a feeling for my purposes that I will need to be able to rotate the printhead along the vertical axis...

Re: Hacking the HP45

Ahh I didn't realize there is a common ground. That simplifies things greatly. And awesome results with the thermal sense and 10x, they behaved pretty much as I expected. They did say the purpose of the 10x was to represent the resistance of the primitives (times ten), as the primitives could not be...

Re: Hacking the HP45

For whatever reason I've put off actually buying the print cartridge itself. I'll make that a priority to pick that up when it's not night time here. I think I've got a pretty good handle on how they utilize both the thermal sense and the 10x resistors. There is only one thing I cannot figure out by...

Re: Hacking the HP45

Ah hah, here are some patents to add to the list.

Ink jet printer thermal control system
Stable substrate structure for a wide swath nozzle array in a high resolution inkjet printer (This appears to be specific to the hp45)

Re: Hacking the HP45

Thanks :) I originally thought about using hot air, but I didn't want to dry the existing ink. Worst case scenario the ink will seep out. I was going to end up replacing the ink anyhow so I'm not too worried. Plus air would be much harder to maintain a stable and reliable measurement. At least with ...

Re: Hacking the HP45

Welcome to the project! looks like you will be able to get some great data with that :) Something of note, if my understanding of the patent is correct, the address lines are connected to both the primitives, and an "identification circuit". This identification circuit gets its inputs from...

Re: Hacking the HP45

I am still trying to wrap my head around it all as well heh heh. While both the thermal sensor and 10x are both heat sensitive, it appears they may serve different purposes. I think the 10x resistor is used to measure the resistance of the heating resistors, while the temperature sensor, well, sense...
