Re: Hacking the Xaar 128 printhead
That is amazing to see. Are the few missing nozzles broken or is something different happening. Both printheads are great for different reasons. With a working Xaar head you can do different things than with a working HP45. HP45 is cheaper, more accurate and has more nozzles but only deals with vola...

Re: Hacking the HP45
And a very quick followup. The capacitor is now 1uF or 10x as small. I also patched some small things in the firmware. 99 now means a counter reaching it's limit. The results are interesting to say the least. All nozzles that were broken as 0 before are still broke, but some are more broken than oth...

Re: Hacking the HP45
Testing nozzles was as difficult as I imagined, but after a few hours of messing around I got it to work. The basics of it works like this: I have an N-channel Mosfet (30N06L) that connects the ground of the printhead to the ground. This way I can divert the flow to a single 10uF capacitor. Attached...

Re: Hacking the HP45
And now for the last task of today. Schematics and firmware. I doubt that it will help anyone before I make it obsolete again, but I have the stuff anyway. The current schematic looks as follows. It is basically 5 TLC59213 drivers and an Arduino Mega 2560. The pins that connect to the drivers have b...

Re: Hacking the HP45
There is now a line buffer in the Firmware. This means that I can store more complicated shapes in the tiny memory of the Arduino Mega. I then went on to write a shape generator because I am not going to fill a 176-bit wide 150 bit long buffer by hand. I started of with a square generator. This is a...

Re: Hacking the HP45
This will be the first of several posts this weekend. I will post things when I have them, to keep sort of an experiment log. I have not got anything other than the HP45 on the list for this weekend, so I will be able to do quite much. If anyone want something specific tested, now is the time to ask...

Re: why so few 3DP printer projects?
Hello and welcome. You did indeed find this site on the right moment. I do have more inkjet (and by extension 3DP) related projects in the future with the HP45. I have seen about half a dozen functional 3DP printer designs. Some are bodges inkjet printers, some are full DIY 3DP printers the C6602A. ...

Re: Hacking the HP45
Time for a video. GWE-4okKDbk I rewrote the firmware so it is no longer triggering ALL nozzles, but it triggers nozzles from 1-300 in quick succession. I thought for a while that some nozzles were broken, but running the ALL nozzles code for a while properly started all nozzles. Almost all nozzles s...

Re: Hacking the HP45
Even more success. After the success of yesterday, I dug up an Arduino Mega to get the pin count. Connected all addresses and primitives to the Mega, wrote a piece of firmware that triggers all nozzles in the cascade, and tried it. It worked the first time. All nozzles (or at least all nozzles that ...

Re: Hacking the Xaar 128 printhead
That would be really appreciated. I have talked with someone who also did some work on inkjet (someone working for Ultimaker) and I remember something about piezo not being able to print conductive fluids. I hope that distilled water and Isopropyl do not conduct so this can still work on binder jett...
