Hey Ytec,
I'm in the process of making the Fallout laser rifle using your files. Great job btw. I have the body printed and painted, and even have the laser and sound working using an Adafruit Audio FX since the WaveShield is discontinued. However, I'm having trouble on the reloading mechanism. Mainly I don't seem to have a elastic band that is strong enough to turn the gear and its hard to tell from the Instructables the clocking of the various cams and levers. The elastic issue I'm sure is some slight interferences caused by tolerance stack ups or printer differences. However, would you be willing to share the Solidworks model by chance? I think that would help me alot with setting of the cams and the pully spacer for example.
Again, appreciate the great work on this and I know its been years since you made this prop, but hopefully there is still some memories of it kicking around.
Thanks,
--Jamie

Re: Fallout AER9 Laser Rifle
Hello Jamie,
I can send you the original solidworks files via mail, but the STEP file is also available in the downloads page. I did a small check, it should be assembled in the STEP file.

As for the elastic, I simply used some elastic for sewing. Most rubbers should work. If you are struggling to get it to move, more elastic force is not going to fix it, filing away the parts that interfere is. What needs to be filed depends on what is binding, but I am sure it can be fixed. If you have more specific questions let me know, and I can see if I can help.

Yvo,
Thanks for the quick reply! It was there all along
I had downloaded the files, which included the STEP print files of course, but never clicked the STEP files link itself. This will help with my troubleshooting. The model will also help as I investigate where to put a USB-C charge port to recharge the LiPo battery I'm using to power the laser and audio.
Yea, I'm sure I have interference(s) somewhere. I had to cut the threaded rod and round rod with a hand cut-off tool, so I wouldn't be surprised if my dimensions are a little off or some print imperfection is causing the difficulty moving the reload mechanism. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to go with the static version in the short-term, because I'm trying to meet a deadline in two weeks for DragonCon in Atlanta. I literally just finished printing the static parts, but still need to prime and sand them. I expect that will take me slightly less time than troubleshooting my reload assembly. Again, thanks for all the time put into this. I printed another version two years ago off Makerworld and even without the electronics and reload capability, your version is far superior in quality and design.

Re: Fallout AER9 Laser Rifle
Do share a picture when you are done. I love seeing other builds of my models.
Re: Fallout AER9 Laser Rifle
Well, after lot of time, assembling and disassembling, sanding and more sanding, I have a working rifle. I need to add the tube and do the weathering, but functionally its complete. I printed out all the parts for the static reload version, but ended up getting the original reloading version to work. The gear linkage was rubbing and hitting on various parts of the housing. After seeing the 3D model, I was able to determine what should be hitting and what should be clear. I've attached a picture of my effort. I took a short video of it firing and reloading, but the file size was too large. I 3D printed a simple case for the Audio FX, 5V step up/battery controller, and LiPo battery and housed it in the green barrel area past the reload mechanism. Since I didn't want to have to disassemble it to charge the battery, I integrated a USB-C charging port in the back. Thanks again for all the information and time that went into designing this!

That looks amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Re: Fallout AER9 Laser Rifle
I'm off to DragonCon, but pretty happy with the final product. I think I'll work on a sling for next year, but no time now.
