Hacking the HP45

TL;DR: I'm starting a project to hack the HP45 printhead for a better powder 3D printer. It’s more precise than the C6602. I’ve gathered patent info, made a CAD model, and plan to design breakout boards to test nozzle control. Help is welcome—especially with designing the controller.

I hope this topic is still active. I’ve gone through all 79 pages and learned a lot of valuable information about inkjet printers. thank you, everyone who contributed their time and effort to this project.I currently have an HP 5150 printer, and while researching the ST 1825-0057, i came across this forum. My goal is to modify the printer for PCB printing, and i am considering using photoresist instead of ink. At the moment, i am exploring whether it would be feasible to reverse engineer the pinout and functionality. If that turns out not to be practical, I may try attaching a laser pointer to the printhead assembly instead. I also noticed that several people have asked about the C8855M manual. Has anyone been able to find any info about ic in document? If so, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share it. Or can you share the manual to me?

Hello and welcome.

This topic (and forum) is still being managed, but it has quieted down a little in the past few years.

As for the specific thing you are working on, the first thing I would ask is if the HP45 (and its derivatives) can actually handle photoresist. It is of the bubblejet type, that requires heating the ink to eject it from the nozzles. If the ink cannot cleanly evaporate, it cannot print in an HP45.

As for the C8855M, I have the integrator manual, and I have one here, but I never printed with one. That is not the sort of project that I like to work on. I suspect the IC is either custom made, or proprietary enough that the datasheet is difficult to get.

I did get a version made, and tested it, but could not get the patterns of ink to eject. It would occasionally eject some ink, but not in a controlled fashion. I have not done more research since then. I suspect the issue can be found with a scope, but I do not see me doing this in the coming few years.

If there is stuff I can share, or give information on, I can share everything I have so far. I do still have all the parts and information here.
