Hacking xaar 1002/1003

Post by chacha »

Is anyone working on xaar1002 or 1003? I plan to use this nozzle to develop a color 3D printer, although I have the manual for this printerhead, but the whole system is too complicated, if anyone is working on it or has done it before, can you share their experience?

Why did xaar officially not connect the fpga signal directly to the nozzle, and what role did the two lines of components below play? Does anyone know?

Hey chacha, just sent you an email. Would love to work together on this, as I've been toying with the same idea.

I don't have any way of helping but I would be interested in being kept up to date with the progress of this. Also why the 1002, why not a multi-colour head?

I'm not sure about chacha's reasoning in that regard, but I've spoken with XAAR and they have a variant of the 1003 (the 1003-U) that is specifically good at "high-laydown" jetting with high viscosity "inks," which makes it particularly useful when trying to develop a material jetting 3D printer that needs to jet generally larger droplets of high viscosity UV-curable photopolymer.

In fact, there are probably no other "easily" acquirable printheads on the market that are actually designed for the purpose we're trying to achieve with material jetting. The downside is the printhead is $4-6k (though you can find used ones for prototyping purposes for less) and you'd need multiple to achieve full color. All other printheads I've seen with full color already available (multiple ink channels to different rows of nozzles) aren't as good at high-viscosity jetting.

The main reason is that in my country, used 1002/1003 is very cheap, and I found some information about this head

I figured this thing out, the next two lines of components are used for power supply :geek:

I originally published the Xaar 128 PCBs and code here. It would be great if the OP could send me the data sheet and documentation. Maybe I can help a little. It would be even better if I could get my hands on one of those 1003 heads for a lot less tha 4k$. Any ideas?

Thanks, Wonko.

Given that this is an internal xaar document, I'm not sure there are legal issues with sharing it. However, my drive circuit has almost been designed, I can provide you with my PCB, host computer control code and cheap second-hand inkjet head, but I need some time to verify my design scheme, you can contact me via email to communicate with me about the specific matters.
